Struktur Terbaik Dimiliki Oleh Manusia




Ingatlah ketika Tuhanmu berfirman kepada para Malaikat: "Sesungguhnya Aku hendak menjadikan seorang khalifah di muka bumi". Mereka berkata: "Mengapa Engkau hendak menjadikan (khalifah) di bumi itu orang yang akan membuat kerusakan padanya dan menumpahkan darah, padahal kami senantiasa bertasbih dengan memuji Engkau dan mensucikan Engkau?" Tuhan berfirman: "Sesungguhnya Aku mengetahui apa yang tidak kamu ketahui" (Al_Baqarah: Ayat 30).

1. Semut
Semut diciptakan dengan kemampuan untuk mengangkat beban 20-50x berat badannya, menakjubkan. Manusia, tidak, bahkan atlet angkat berat paling kuat sekalipun, hanya mentok 5x berat badannya.
Tetapi manusia, dianugerahi kemampuan mengangkat beban hidup berkali2 lipat.

2. Burung merak,
Burung Merak diciptakan dengan seluruh keindahan pada bulu ekornya, menakjubkan. Ada ratusan corak warna yg indah tiada tara. Manusia, tidak, warna kulit kita, mau kulit artis model sabun top sekalipun, begitu2 saja, tdk ada warnanya.
Tetapi manusia, dianugerahi keindahan hati yang tiada tara, yg akhlaknya bisa begitu mencengangkan untuk dilihat. Kita akan terpesona menatap wajah indah seseorang yg berahklak baik. Senyum tulusnya amat menentramkan.

3. Penyu
Penyu diciptakan dengan kesetiaan pada siklus migrasi, menakjubkan. Beribu-ribu kilometer mereka pergi meninggalkan tempat lahirnya, maka besok lusa, saat dewasa, untuk bertelur, beribu-ribu kilometer mereka akan kembali ke tempat yg sama, tidak tertukar. Meski beratus2 rintangan dilalui. Manusia tidak, beda pintu, beda gang, apalagi beda jalan saja bisa membuat kita tersesat.
Tetapi manusia, dianugerahi kemampuan untuk setia tiada tara, kokoh atas pemahaman hidup yg baik, menggigit prinsip2 dgn kuat, tidak peduli meski beratus2 rintangan dilalui, penyiksaan, semua tiada artinya. Tidak akan tersesat.

4. Cheetah
Cheetah diciptakan dengan kecepatan lari mengagumkan, 114km/jam, dan hanya butuh 3 detik berakselerasi 0-60km/jam. Burung peregrine falcon (jika kalian pernah membaca novel Bidadari2 Surga, pasti akan tahu), memiliki kecepatan 322km/jam. Manusia tidak, pemilik rekor dunia, Usain Bolt, berlari mentok di kecepatan 48km/jam.
Tetapi manusia, dianugerahi kecepatan luar biasa untuk memahami sesuatu, belajar sesuatu, menerima sesuatu. Sebuah proses hidayah, bahkan bisa berlangsung hanya hitungan detik, dan seseorang berubah menjadi lebih baik.

5. Beraneka binatang laut
Beraneka binatang laut  dianugerahi kemampuan menyelam ke dalam samudera hingga 3.000 meter. Manusia tidak, coba saja menyelam 3-5 meter, kuping kita mulai terasa berdenging, lebih dalam lagi, tanpa latihan yg baik, paru2 bisa pecah. Dan atlit selam paling kuat sekalipun, tdk bisa berenang ratusan meter ke sana.
Tetapi manusia, dianugerahi kedalaman hati yg menakjubkan. Bahkan, hati manusia yg terlatih, luasnya bisa selapang samudera dalam. Tuangkan seluruh kesedihan hidup, dia tetap tersenyum, tidak tercemar oleh kesedihan itu.

6. Anjing
Anjing  dianugerahi kemampuan menunggu. Banyak sekali kisah, anjing2 yg tetap menunggui rumah tuannya, bahkan kuburan tuannya (setelah meninggal), bertahun2, tetap menunggu. Mereka menunggu duduk jika disuruh, tanpa protes, tanpa tanya, berjam-jam, berhari2. Manusia tidak, lihat saja jalanan macet, antrian panjang, bahkan manusia bersepakat: waktu adalah uang.
Tetapi manusia, sejatinya diberikan anugerah kesabaran yang luar biasa. Hati manusia yg terlatih, bahkan bisa bersabar belasan tahun, puluhan tahun, tetap sabar, tetap mengagumkan, mengalahkan apapun.

Perhatikanlah alam terbentang luas, maka lebih banyak lagi contoh2 mencengangkan dalam hidup ini. Kita, manusia, sejatinya diciptakan dengan struktur terbaik--bahkan belum memperhitungkan anugerah akal pikiran. Kitalah mahkluk yg disiapkan untuk mengurus dunia ini.  Menyadari hal ini, semoga memberikan pemahaman yg baik. Bukan sebaliknya. Semua manusia punya potensi untuk menjadi besar, the greatest. Nah, kabar buruknya, sebaliknya, semua manusia juga punya potensi untuk menjadi perusak nomor satu. Ditimpa beban kecil sekali sudah mengeluh, hatinya buruk tiada tara, keras kepala atas nasehat dan penjelasan, tdk bersabar, dan mudah sekali kelam oleh tinta kesedihan. Kalian tahu Panda? Semua orang tahu. Selain langka, lucu, menggemaskan, ada satu rahasia kecil Panda. eh, bukan, bukan jago main kungfu. Rahasia kecilnya adalah panda yg raksasa itu, bisa dibilang hanya menyantap satu jenis makanan sepanjang hidup mereka: bambu, sehari bisa 9-14 kilogram bambu.  Maka saya akan menutup notes ini dengan hendak bilang, Manusia dalam urusan makan, punya kemampuan hebat sekali menyesuaikan diri. Kita juga bisa hidup dgn satu jenis makanan, bahkan hanya minum air dan nasi saja, termasuk mengendalikan makanan dgn puasa, dsbgnya. Lentur dan fleksibel.

Tetapi sebaliknya, manusia yg serakah, dia bisa memakan apa saja. Dan jangan tanya berapa yg dia butuhkan utk memuaskan nafsunya, rakus tak berbilang, bila perlu dengan mencuri, merampas hak orang lain, menganiaya, kita bisa lebih buas dan mengerikan dibanding mahkluk manapun.

Discussion questions/ thinking points
a)         Would you use all of the stages above? Would you use them in the same order or not? Why?
b)         Are there any stages that you usually do in L1 rather than English? Could you switch to English? Why/ why not?
c)          For the stages you would use, which of the phrases in that section would you choose to use now with your classes? Which phrase would be the next level up once they have got the hang of that phrase?
d)         How can you get the students using that classroom language too?
e)          Once students get used to the routine of using such stages in the lesson, it is possible to use a much more difficult phrase with the students guessing from context what you mean. Would your classes benefit from you doing that?
f)          Once students are used to hearing certain language at a certain stage of the lesson they no longer listen to the words, but mixing up the order of the stages can make them listen more carefully. Do you think your classes could benefit from doing that?
g)          What do you think about doing choral greetings?
h)         One problem with choral greetings is that students sound uninterested or even rude, even when saying things like “Have a good weekend”? How can you remedy this?
i)           What do you think about teaching slangy expressions like “Catch you later” in your classes?
j)           Students often make a mistake saying “Good night” when they mean “Good evening” or “Goodbye”? How could you explain the mistake to your classes?
